Pinoy Business Idea: Ubuntu Internet Cafe

Planning to start your own internet cafe for an initial investment of as low as P35,000.00?
That's 5 computers for P35,000 only.
Seriously? Yup. It is an offering from http://ubuntu.icafebusiness.com that would help Filipino entrepreneurs start up their own small business.

Why so cheap? By using open-source software (take note: not M$ Windows), you take all those unnecessary software costs out.
This type of business would be perfect targetting those people who go to cafes simply to surf the Net or do some encoding.

With an expected 5 to 6 months return of investment period (as their site claims), it would be easy to recover your investements.

Personal Notes:
If you have doubts regarding the Ubuntu operating software, worry no more. I have experienced using Ubuntu and one thing I could say is... it's great! (Once they make installing games user-friendly, there would be no reason to use Windows ever again.)

Great and cool-looking user interface... and it's FREE!
Say no to piracy, switch to open source.

UPCAT The Movie Trailer

Ramon Carlo Olivarez is directing a movie that details the stories of people with their dreams of entering the state university.
The trailer was released on Youtube a few days ago and it promises to be an amusing film.
Probably a great way to celebrate the University of the Philippine's 100th year anniversary.

Google Maps now in the Philippines

The Philippines is the first Southeast Asian nation to have the Google maps application.
With Google Map Maker, Pinoys would be able to take advantage of the information that is shared by other users. Even though you really can't have a perfect map, Google will be banking on locals who have relevant information about their area.

Philippines on WCG Asian Championship 2008

All eyes were pinned on the DotA (Defense of the Ancients) team but Team Mineski failed to bring home the bacon for the Philippines. With a dismal finish and a far cry from the bronze medal that Team Flow won back in WCG Asia 07, the Philippine delegation seemed lost at that very moment.
But thankfully, someone shone for Team Philippines and that was none other than Luis Benesa.
An 18 year old kid from the Ateneo de Manila University, he made the Philippines proud by winning silver on the Guitar Hero event.
All hopes are now pinned on the WCG Philippine leg champion Rafael Formoso for the same event in the WCG Finals at Germany this November.

Obama means hope in Tagalog

Chris Cabaldon, a six term mayor West Sacramento has Filipino American roots. And at a rally, he proclaimed, “In Tagalog, ‘Obama’ Means Hope.”
Silence soon followed afterwards.
With Tagalog as one of the most dynamic dialects in the world, this could probably become true.

You may think that what happens in the US, does not affect the Philippines.
Sorry to break your bubble but YES it does!

The Filipinos and the rest of the world needs an American leader that knows how to make this world a relatively better place.
We do not need another American president who only knows how to go to war.

American policies greatly affect what happens to the rest of the world.
Let me cite the reasons why Barack Obama, an African American candidate deserves the Filipino-American vote.

He co-sponsored the Filipino Veterans Equity Act, he passed a law in Illinois to combat racial profiling and Obama has been paving the way for immigration reforms.

Now tell me, what does John McCain have over Barack Obama?

Kaya Natin!
